The secretariat's core task is to be an independent secretariat for Independent Research Fund Denmark, which supports the fund's work with application processing, research funding and research advisory service.

FRIGG

The research funding unit FRIGG is responsible for Independent Research Fund Denmark’s calls for proposals, and its staff manage various procedures related to peer review, cross-council processing, as well as to grant approvals and rejections.

The unit handles tasks related to the funding instruments DFF-Research Project1 & 2, the Sapere Aude programme, International Postdoctoral Grants, Non-university Research Education (PhD), and single-council funding instruments.

Additionally, the unit manages collaboration with the National Science Foundation on researcher exchange and engages with international partners on research funding in initiatives such as HERA, the Joint Programming Initiative+, and the international research programme NORFACE.

The secretariat of Independent Research Fund Denmark also collaborates through the Nordic cooperation bodies within Humanities, Social Sciences, Medicine, and Natural Sciences (NOS-HS, NOS-M, and NOS-N).

RØSKVA

The unit is responsible for the secretariat’s tasks related to advisory services, finance, system development, communication, knowledge dissemination, and analysis.

The unit manages the financial administration of the fund’s grant allocations from the Finance Act and handles external and internal inquiries regarding statistics and analyses related to funding instruments, applications, and grants. It also prepares analyses and statistics for annual reports and publications.

The unit is responsible for the operation and development of the fund’s application and assessment forms within the e-grant application system and contributes to the overall development of the system in collaboration with other users. Additionally, the unit oversees data organisation, validation, and extraction in the fund’s internal database.

The unit handles tasks related to Independent Research Fund Denmark’s advisory services on funding and research policy in collaboration with the relevant academic councils and the board. It also manages tasks related to the fund’s meeting planning and international cooperation, including participation in international forums such as Science Europe. Furthermore, the unit oversees the internal legal function of the office, dealing with matters such as conflict of interest, appeals, and access to public records.

Additionally, the unit carries out tasks related to the appointment and resignation of council members, the council’s communication with the ministry, and HR-related tasks within the secretariat.

The purpose of the unit’s work is to ensure high-quality service for those seeking advice from the council, support the fund’s meetings and international collaborations, and ensure efficient and proper administration within the fund.

Additionally, the unit manages the fund’s communication efforts and stakeholder engagement. It oversees the fund’s communication in collaboration with the board and council chairs and facilitates stakeholder dialogue, including through conferences, public meetings, and similar events.
