Independent Research Fund Denmark’s thematic expert committees award grants for specific research activities within politically designated themes when special funding is allocated for this purpose in the annual finance acts.
The thematic expert committees consist of a varying number of members appointed by the board in a personal capacity. Many of the members are affiliated with foreign institutions and are appointed without an open call. The committees are established on an ad hoc basis and for one year at a time.
