Talented young researchers receive 247 million DKK for groundbreaking research

41 talented research leaders have received 247 million Danish kroner from Independent Research Fund Denmark to carry out their groundbreaking research funded by the Sapere Aude: DFF-Starting Grant.

The 41 new research leaders come from all parts of the scientific world. The grant holders are all excellent young researchers, who have carried out top class research in their field. With the Sapere Aude programme the researchers are provided with the opportunity to develop and strengthen their research ideas as well as their competencies as independent research leaders of other researchers.

»The excellent and capable young researchers in Denmark help renew the knowledge already available with their groundbreaking ideas. Each year it is therefore a special time when we publish the names of the new Sapere Aude Research Leaders. In them we see so many talented researchers who can help ensure that Danish research continues to contribute to finding solutions to society’s challenges for many years to come, « says chair of the board for Independent Research Fund Denmark, Maja Horst.

The funding instrument “Sapere Aude: DFF-Starting Grant” aims at promoting careers, the mobility internationally as well as nationally among research environments, as well as to strengthen networks. Sapere Aude: DFF-Starting Grants are targeted at top researchers who intend to gather a group of researchers and/or research students to carry out a research project at a high, international level. Sapere Aude: DFF-Starting Grant furthermore strengthens the possibility for excellent young researchers to return to a Danish research institution after a research stay abroad

The amounts mentioned are subject to an upcoming budget control.

 

Facts about Sapere Aude: DFF- Starting Grant

Sapere Aude is Latin and means ”dare to know”.

Sapere Aude: DFF-Starting Grant is aimed at providing excellent young researchers, i.e., researchers who have carried out top class research in their field, an opportunity to develop and strengthen their research ideas as well as their competencies as independent research leaders of other researchers

The funding instrument also aims at promoting careers, the mobility internationally as well as nationally among research environments, as well as to strengthen networks.

Independent Research Fund Denmark has received 356 applications and awarded 41 grants, which gives a success rate of 12 %.

The number of female applicants was 116, and 19 women have been awarded a Sapere Aude: DFF-Starting Grant which gives a success rate of 16 %. For male applicants the success rate was 9 % based on 240 applications and 22 grants.
