Following the throne succession in January 2024, the Royal House has decided on the future of their patronages. It is with great pleasure that Independent Research Fund Denmark welcomes Her Majesty The Queen of Denmark as their new patron.
The Royal Family undertakes patronages and honorary duties for a wide range of organisations and associations, covering diverse areas such as business, culture, sports, sustainability, and social causes.
Her Majesty The Queen, formerly Crown Princess, has been a patron of The Danish Science Festival and The Danish Youth Association of Science and has been associated with the Elite Research Prize for several years. From May 2024, she will be the patron of Independent Research Fund Denmark.

This is a recognition of the importance of a strong Danish research environment and the significance of research for our society,« says Søren Serritzlew, Chair of the Board of Independent Research Fund Denmark.
Minister for Higher Education and Science, Christina Egelund, is also pleased with the HM The Queen's wish to support independent research:

Independent Research Fund Denmark funds research of the highest international quality and strengthens pioneering research in Denmark. Independent Research Fund Denmark invests in high-risk research based on the researchers' own ideas within and across scientific fields. Independent Research Fund Denmark also annually allocates thematic funds for political and strategic initiatives.
Independent Research Fund Denmark promotes the internationalisation of research and supports young talent as well as experienced researchers. Additionally, Independent Research Fund Denmark provides advisory services to ministers, the Parliament, and the broader Danish and international research landscape. This is based on expertise and professional diversity through Independent Research Fund Denmark's board and council members, all of whom are recognised and active researchers.
