Independent Research Fund Denmark will thus consist of nine board members and 75 council members spread across five academic research councils. Additionally, members are appointed annually to thematic research expert committees that allocate funds for research in politically prioritized areas, such as green research, clinical research, or research on vulnerable children and youth.
Together with the six other board members and chair Søren Serritzlew, the newly appointed board members, Gemma Clare Solomon Larsen and Helle Kryger Aggerholm, will help set the direction for Independent Research Fund Denmark starting in 2025. This will be based on the fund's new strategy for 2024–2026, “Independent research in a changing world.”
Professor Gemma Clare Solomon Larsen, from the Department of Chemistry at the University of Copenhagen, is among the world’s leading researchers in quantum interference. Together with her research team, she has made groundbreaking discoveries in destructive quantum interference, where electrical current can be ‘switched off’ using single molecules. She is also the scientific director for algorithms and applications at the Novo Nordisk Foundation’s Quantum Computing Program.
Research and Development Director Helle Kryger Aggerholm has more than 10 years of experience in research and education management. She has previously served as head of research, acting pro-rector, and member of the executive management team at DMJX, Danish School of Media and Journalism. Before that, she spent 15 years at Aarhus University, where she was an associate professor and program director at the Department of Business Communication.
