Independent Research Fund Denmark participates in a new unique overview of Danish-funded research

What are the outcomes of the billions of DKK invested in research in Denmark each year? Research Portal Denmark is now launching a database that consolidates grants from both public and private Danish research funding foundations. The ambition is to create a single, open, and transparent entry point to data on research funding in Denmark.

In Research Portal Denmark, data is now available on all funded research projects from Independent Research Fund Denmark, Novo Nordisk Foundation, and Carlsberg Foundation from 2016 onward. This amounts to just over 8,300 grants. In 2025, the database will be expanded to include funding data from The Lundbeck Foundation, Innovation Fund Denmark, VELUX FONDEN, and Villum Foundation.

The grants database will provide an accessible, comprehensive overview of Danish research funding for all interested parties and is accessible to the public.

Independent Research Fund Denmark, like many other foundations, has an overview of its own research grants on its website. However, Research Portal Denmark uniquely consolidates grants from both public and private foundations into a single, open overview.

The grants database provides access to key information about research funding, including coverage across main areas, distribution among institutions, trends over the years, and the relationship between funding and individual research publications.

Ultimately, the goal is for all Danish research funding foundations to contribute information and be represented in the database.

The Danish private and public foundations share their data in collaboration with National Open Research Analytics (NORA), a national initiative funded by the Ministry of Higher Education and Science.
