Independent Research Fund Denmark is participating in a new joint Nordic call for funding of research networks within the natural sciences and related engineering fields, launched by NordForsk.

The aim of the funding is to support the establishment of new networks across the Nordic countries and to promote collaboration among researchers where there is clear potential for synergy. These networks should also strengthen international competitiveness and create a strong, joint Nordic platform in new and promising research areas, as well as build bridges between disciplines that are traditionally considered separate.

The call is offered by the Joint Committee of the Natural Science Research Councils in the Nordic Countries (NOS-N), in which the research councils DFF | Natural Sciences and DFF | Technology and Production Sciences under Independent Research Fund Denmark are members.

NOS-N aims to support the next generation of Nordic researchers in building new or stronger connections across national and disciplinary borders and in developing robust collegial networks that can significantly influence careers and future research directions. Therefore, the call targets researchers in the early stages of their careers (2–7 years after completing their PhD).

Network activities should include a strong component focused on training the next generation of researchers with interdisciplinary skills within the natural sciences and related engineering fields in the Nordic region. Applicants are therefore encouraged to include summer schools and similar activities for PhD students and postdocs as part of the network.

Project duration is 3 years, the funding amount is up to 2 million NOK per network.

The application deadline is August 14, 2025, at 13:00 CEST.

The full call text and application process are available on NordForsk’s website, where you can also sign up to a contact list with other potential applicants.
