Ten Pre-graduate Scholarships open up the world of research for students

Ten students from health sciences programmes have received a total of approximately DKK 1.7 million for scientific work from Independent Research Fund Denmark.

The ten students are receiving around DKK 1.7 million in Pre-graduate Scholarships from DFF | Medical Sciences. The grants are intended to give the most talented bachelor’s and master’s students the opportunity to engage in scientific work and strengthen their interest in pursuing a future research career.

This year, the scholarships have been awarded, among other things, to a new method aimed at improving the ability to distinguish between harmless and aggressive tumours in prostate cancer; to a project working to reduce the risk of surgical infections in patients; and to a project examining the relationship between sleep and chronic pain.

The scholarships allow students to immerse themselves in scientific work within health and disease and gain their first insight into how research is conducted. Applications were submitted by the students’ supervisors, who also receive the grants on their behalf.

A Pre-graduate Scholarship can be an important step towards a research career. At the same time, it gives students the chance to work independently on a research project and contribute to new knowledge within the health field.
