Independent Research Fund Denmark (DFF) will participate as a partner in the upcoming Horizon Europe co-funded partnership Social Transformations and Resilience (STR). Preparatory work is already underway, and the partnership is expected to be active from 2027 to 2033. During its lifetime, the partnership will launch a series of calls within its thematic focus areas, which include resilience, inclusion, social protection, the future of work, education, and the green transition.

DFF’s involvement will enable researchers based in Denmark to apply for funding through the calls that DFF contributes to under the framework of this partnership. Once the calls are announced, they will be published on the fund’s website: dff.dk.

What are Horizon Europe partnerships?

In collaboration with EU Member States, the European Union is investing over EUR 20 billion in various partnerships through Horizon Europe, the EU’s framework programme for research and innovation for the period 2021–2027. Among these are the partnerships Resilient Cultural Heritage (RCH) and Social Transformations and Resilience (STR), both of which DFF has chosen to join as a Danish partner. These partnerships are scheduled to be launched between 2025 and 2027, with the European Commission expected to make a final decision on the initiation of STR in the autumn of 2026.

What is Social Transformations and Resilience?

The Social Transformations and Resilience partnership aims to strengthen societal resilience, promote justice and inclusion, and enhance social cohesion. It addresses challenges arising from climate change, environmental shifts, technological advances, demographic developments, and unexpected shocks such as the COVID-19 pandemic and geopolitical crises. The partnership seeks to generate new knowledge, tools, and innovative solutions to respond to current societal challenges. This will be achieved through joint international calls for proposals, among other activities. Furthermore, STR will support the development of new strategies and policy initiatives at European, national, and regional levels.

The STR partnership is part of Horizon Europe’s Pillar II: Global Challenges and European Industrial Competitiveness, and is one of two planned partnerships within Cluster 2: Culture, Creativity and Inclusive Society.
