In 2026, Independent Research Fund Denmark will allocate funding for thematic research across a number of politically determined themes. The applications will be assessed by the thematic ad hoc committees, which have now been appointed.

In 2026, Independent Research Fund Denmark will allocate thematic research funding across 13 themes. The Board of Independent Research Fund Denmark has now appointed the members of the following thematic ad hoc committees:

  • Arctic research
  • Clinical and independent research
  • Green research
  • Research in psychiatry
  • Research in the specialized social services
  • Research on artificial intelligence
  • Research on artificial intelligence in the cancer field
  • Research on elderly, dementia, vulnerability and poor well-being
  • Research on fertility
  • Research on learning and well-being 
  • Research on the Danish Realm

There are a small number of vacancies in certain ad hoc committees where members have yet to be appointed. The overview for these committees will be updated on the website as soon as the appointments have been finalised.

In addition, Independent Research Fund Denmark will allocate funding for the theme “Research on antisemitism”. Applications for this theme will be assessed by DFF | Humanities with the involvement of external review.
