How do I create an application?

When you have determined the most appropriate funding instrument for your research idea and whether you meet the requirements in the call for proposals, you can begin preparing your application. You can begin your application in e-grant approx. three months before the application deadline, and we recommend starting as early as possible.

Creating a user profile

The application must be initiated and submitted in e-grant by the researcher responsible for the project and responsible to DFF in relation to the submitted project (i.e. the applicant).

To submit an application to Independent Research Fund Denmark, you must first register as a user in the application system e-grant.

Choose ”Create new e-grant user” to create a user profile.

If you already have a user profile, you can simply log in to the system.

Beginning the application

Once you have logged in to e-grant, go to the tab ”Application possibilities”. Here, you can choose between the funding instruments, which are open for applications. If the instrument is offered by multiple research councils, you must be aware of selecting the research council you wish to apply to. You can filter this under 'What can you apply for?'.

Once you have selected the funding instrument you wish to apply for, you can begin preparing an application. When filling in the application form, you have to go through a series of steps. These steps vary depending on which funding instrument you are applying for. For this reason, we strongly urge you to open the application form in good time in order to get an overview of the information that must be included.

When you use the fund’s application system e-grant system, it is your responsibility to:

  • Select the correct application form.
  • Fill in the application form correctly and ensure that the provided information is accurate.
  • Ensure that the content of the required appendices is correct, and that the appendices have been attached to the application.
  • Submit the application to the fund before the expiration of the application deadline specified for the relevant funding instrument.

My application is cross-council – how do I apply?

You can apply for cross-council assessment of your application if you judge that the application’s subject matter cannot be confined to a single research council. If you believe that your application should be assessed by more than one research council, you must do the following:

  • You must submit only one application, including all mandatory appendices. When you begin preparing your application, you must choose the research council that you deem to be most central to your application (the main council), based on the description of the coverage and deliminations between the research councils in the call for proposals. See the page Which research council should I choose?
  • In the application form, you must choose which other councils you want your application assessed by, and explain why these councils are being applied to.
  • In the project description, you must demonstrate how you, as the project leader, will ensure involvement of the various scientific skills and competencies, which the implementation of the project requires.
Please note that in a very cases the requirements for appendices may differ between the research council. Consequently, it is important to thoroughly read the description of required appendices, both in the overview of appendices and in the description of each instrument. If you are unsure about the terms, you can contact the office of DFF.

DFF | Cross-council Committee decides how your application will be processed. Read more om the page about Cross-council assessment.

Please note that it is not possible to apply for cross-council assessment for the fund's thematic funding instruments.

Can I make changes to my application?

It is possible to re-open and re-submit your application up until the application deadline. The fund will always assess the most recently submitted version of your application, which has been received before the application deadline. This means that if you have already submitted the application, made subsequent changes and have not managed to submit the changes before the application deadline, the fund will not assess your changes, but the most recently submitted application within the application deadline.

It is not possible to make changes to the application after the application deadline for the funding instrument in question.
