Reporting and financial statements

When you receive a grant from Independent Research Fund Denmark, there will be requirements for reporting and submission of financial statements. These requirements will always be outlined in your grant letter.

When do I need to report to the fund?

For most of the fund’s grants, two types of academic reports are required: a final academic report and a late academic report. In these reports, you must, among other things, account for the results of your project as well as its expected impact. The final report must be submitted no later than 3 months after the project’s conclusion in e-grant. Approval of this report is a prerequisite for the release of the final disbursement of the grant. You can begin working on the final report in e-grant up to 6 months before the project ends. The late report is submitted 3 years after the conclusion of the grant. While this report is not mandatory, the fund encourages grant holders to submit it so that long-term results can be tracked.

At present, the fund does not require ongoing reporting during the project period. However, the fund reserves the right to request interim reports during the project in case it is deemed necessary.

Which financial reports should I submit?

Independent Research Fund Denmark distinguishes between annual financial statements and final financial statements. Final financial statements must be submitted via e-grant for all grants, while annual financial statements are only required for some grant holders, depending on the administrator and the granted amount. Your grant letter will specify which financial reports you are required to submit. It will also be visible in e-grant and should be submitted no later than 3 months after the project’s conclusion.

Rules regarding financial reporting and the reallocation of funds are outlined in "Vilkår for bevillinger" (in Danish). Please note that "Vilkår for Bevillinger" was revised as of february 2025. You must always adhere to the terms that were in effect during the year when your application was approved. You can find previous calls for proposals and guidelines here.

You can learn more about financial reporting on the Grants Unit’s website.
