About Horizon Europe Partnerships
Independent Research Fund Denmark participates in two Horizon Europe partnerships. This enables Danish researchers to apply for funding through the calls launched by these partnerships during their lifetime, expected to run from 2026 and 2027 respectively.
Horizon Europe is the EU’s framework programme for research and innovation for the period 2021–2027. It is organized into three main pillars, which consist of various programmes and initiatives. Pillar II (Global Challenges and European Industrial Competitiveness) includes six thematic programmes, or “clusters,” and provides support for transnational projects through strategic work programmes and calls. One of the most important instruments under Pillar II is the partnerships.
The EU, together with its member states, is investing more than €20 billion in a range of different partnerships through Horizon Europe. These partnerships bring together the European Commission and public institutions in a joint effort to find solutions to Europe’s biggest challenges, including climate change, environmental pollution, biodiversity loss, and digital transformation, and they constitute a central element of Horizon Europe.
During the period 2025–2027, the partnerships Resilient Cultural Heritage (RCH) and Social Transformations and Resilience (STR) will be launched, with Independent Research Fund Denmark participating as the Danish partner. Both partnerships fall under Culture, Creativity and Inclusive Society (Cluster 2).

About Social Transformations and Resilience
Independent Research Fund Denmark participates as a partner in the upcoming co-funded Horizon Europe partnership Social Transformations and Resilience (STR), which is expected to be active during the period 2027–2033. Over the lifetime of the partnership, a number of calls for research funding will be launched within its thematic areas, which include inclusion, resilience, social protection, the future of work, education, and the green transition. The partnership is coordinated by National Science Centre Poland (NCN).
The fund’s participation enables researchers in Denmark to apply for funding through the calls that the fund contributes to within the framework of the partnership. As the calls are announced, they will be available on the fund’s webpage for international funding opportunities.
The Social Transformations and Resilience partnership aims to strengthen resilience, ensure fairness and inclusion, and promote social cohesion. This includes addressing changes related to climate, the environment, technology, demographics, and unexpected crises such as COVID-19 and geopolitical conflicts. The partnership will contribute to the development of new knowledge, tools, and innovative solutions to address current social challenges, including through joint international calls for research funding. It will also support the development of new strategies and policy work at the European, national, and regional levels.
