Denmark establishes CoARA National Chapter

A common platform for dialogue, knowledge sharing and exchange of experience on reforming research assessment in a Danish context has now been established. With the creation of a national Danish chapter under the Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment (CoARA), collaboration between research organisations is strengthened and the visibility of the work is increased.

The chapter has been established on the initiative of a group of Danish research organisations that are members of CoARA. Independent Research Fund Denmark, Villum Fonden and Aalborg University act as co-chairs of the chapter.

The chapter builds on an informal Danish CoARA network that was established in 2024 on the initiative of Independent Research Fund Denmark in collaboration with Villum Fonden and Aalborg University. Since then, the network has brought together a broad range of Danish research organisations, which have met several times a year to discuss research assessment and exchange experience in a Danish context.

The chapter will function as an open national network at administrative level, where actors in the Danish research system can discuss challenges, share practical experience and draw inspiration for work on reforming research assessment. The focus is on learning and joint development rather than uniform solutions. The chapter also serves as an entry point for inspiration and collaboration with international research organisations working with research assessment.

Network meetings and activities under the chapter are open to all interested actors – including organisations and institutions that have not yet signed up to CoARA or the Agreement on Reforming Research Assessment, but are curious about the principles and wish to follow or contribute to the dialogue.
